Lamborghini, the Italian supercar manufacturer is making its first step into non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, which is dubbed the Space Key, is a work that was created in collaboration with a unknown artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a physical object that links to exclusive digital artwork accessible through a QR code that is located on the back. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite materials that Lamborghini took to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. When it returned to earth, the carbon fiber was then sculpted into this distinctive artwork. The physical component is inscribed with an NFT serial number that ties to the digital artwork via QR codes on the back.

For those not in the aware, NFTs are unique identification numbers that are stored on a distributed blockchain ledger, and linked to a digital asset such as a photo, video or music. This allows owners to ensure authenticity and traceability of tokens via the internet.

Working with NFT PRO White-label NFT solution for businesses, Lamborghini will take this unique approach to art to a new level. Over the next few weeks Lamborghini will be sharing details about the exciting project including the name of the unknown artist and a timeline for the auction.

The NFT was created in collaboration with an unknown artist and will go on auction within a couple of weeks. Its core is a piece made of advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D printed for the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive, digital image via QR codes. Only five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that are recorded in distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain and connected to digital assets like images. It's a hot topic among people who have more money than they have common sense. So it was only a matter of time until automakers decided to take advantage of.

Space Key is made up of five units. It was designed with a carbon fiber composite, which was delivered to the ISS back in 2019. Each NFT will be equipped with a QR code that links it to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist. In the coming weeks and days, more information will be revealed, including the name and digital artwork of the artist as well how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

Each Space Key contains a block comprised of the most advanced carbon-fire composite material. It was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with QR codes that link to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times when the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Over 600 million pixels make up each of the five images which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner employed an inflatable camera equipped with an lens to take individual images, which were later assembled into the final photograph. The result is a truly out of this world photo that captures the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned soon, but there is no exact date or place yet.
